Program Description

Interdisciplinary studies are an approach to answering questions, solving problems and addressing contemporary social issues from multiple perspectives. Interdisciplinary students develop the intellectual tools needed to build bridges across academic disciplines and apply their skills, innovations and knowledge in various academic and practical settings. In core classes, students develop a portfolio that showcases each individual’s skills, interests and talents. This portfolio and the applied learning experience provide each student with valuable resources for flexible, individualized career planning and development.

The B.I.S. program may be completed in-person or online. Working with an advisor, students choose from and combine two of more than 100 concentrations that represent academic interests they wish to integrate. Of these, the following concentrations are available to students attending in-person or online: family and human development, film and media studies, history (U.S. or European track), justice studies, political science, religious studies, small business, sociology, technical writing, and women and gender studies.

A B.I.S. in organizational studies is also available online. For more information visit http://asuonline.asu.edu/programs/
